Meet Olive

Olive, a 10 lb terrier mix, is no stranger to the therapeutic value of animals. Trained at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility as a part of the WOOF (Working on Our Futures) Program, she acquired skills that perfectly positioned her to volunteer with Therapeutic Paws of Canada.

Olive in office
Olive is only on-site occasionally and the preferences of clients are accommodated, especially if there is unease around dogs. When present, you can expect to be happily greeted by Olive's wagging tail, followed by some sniffs and cuddles. Within moments, she will find herself the idea place to curl up and tends to spend the majority of sessions napping either next to clients, or seated beside Kelly.
Animal-Assisted Interventions
Researchers have found a direct connection between interacting with animals and enjoying positive health benefits. For most people, the presence of an animal prompts the body to release serotonin, prolactin and oxytocin. These hormones generate a relaxation and stress-reducing response.
